CASE STUDY 1 - Troubled Project

Challenges

The National Space Programs Office (NSPO) in Taiwan commissioned a satellite ground station to operate their first satellite ROCSAT-1. The technology was state of the art and used unusual frequency transmissions. The ground station and antennae were designed and built in the USA and the project managed from the UK. By the time Chris was engaged to deliver the project the project had made little progress and was losing money. In addition, the contract had strict conditions including performance bonds and liquidated damages.

Outcome

Chris immediately moved to Los Angeles to be with the major subcontractor responsible for the design and build of the ground station and antennae. Through judicious management he was able to move the project to Tainan in order to fully commission the systems. Despite the project being delivered late, Chris was able to ensure the customer relationship improved significantly and the systems were accepted into service. Most notably all contractual levers remained unused thereby maximising the financial situation.

Case Study 2 - GLOBAL WINDOWS INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECT

Challenges

Reed Elsevier the major international publisher wanted to build a global Windows Infrastructure across 41,000 users and migrate from their legacy windows infrastructure. In order to retain skills within house for future operations and deployments Reed Elsevier mandated that their technical team formed half of the delivery team.

Outcome

The solution was successfully delivered.

What the Customer Said

“I worked with Chris from 2001 thru 2003 when he provided programme management services for a Windows 2003 roll out across 300 servers and 41000 clients. He was professional, efficient, personable and provided excellent value for money. He is an excellent Programme manager”.

Nigel Stevens R-E VP of Technology

“Chris did an excellent job of managing a complex programme of work which involved several large technology companies, a global internal team and independent consultants. The project delivered transformational results for our organization. Throughout the program, Chris managed to keep us in scope and on time. It's no small accomplishment to keep multiple streams of work on target across disciplines and timezones, and Chris managed to do it while maintaining his usual personable attitude.”

In order to do this they wanted a disciplined Project Manager to ensure a fully planned and effectively managed programme of work.

The work was completed on time and to budget a major international manufacturer and retail organisation that was upgrading legacy environment based on Novell to new Microsoft infrastructure (server, storage and desktop) across its global operation.
